Muhammet Demirbilek is an Associate Professor of Educational Technology in the Faculty of Education at Suleyman Demirel University in Isparta /Turkey. He earned his doctoral and master’s degree in Educational Technology from the University of Florida. He also holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics engineering from Istanbul University. He worked as a graduate faculty and visiting Assistant Professor in Digital Worlds Institute at University of Florida (2013-2014) and Post-Doctoral Researcher at Games, Learning, and Society (GLS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008-2009).
Demirbilek joined several European Union founded projects as the partner and IT expert of Implementing Learning Game Resources Based on Educational Content project (ILGRECO: Grundtvig 1: European Union Cooperation Project) and European Union Lifelong Learning program project titled Increased Mainstreaming of Games in Learning Policies (IMAGINE: Multilateral project. EU Lifelong Learning Program: Key Activity 4) and The simSchool (a classroom simulation) supported by Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) from Eucause and collaborators. Currently he is the partner and country coordinator of OnCREATE: Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices Erasmus+: KA2 – Cooperation and Innovation for Good Practices and Fighting discrimination and anti-Gypsyism in education and employment in EU” -PAL projects.
Demirbilek serves on the editorial board for multiple prominent gaming and simulation journals, including Simulation & Gaming: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Theory, Practice and Research.
His research interests include the impact of digital media and computer games and simulations on teaching and learning. How new media (e.g web 2.0, online social networks, mobile media) restructure thinking, values, actions, community, and culture. His recent research interests are the effects of online bullying, learning analytics, digital amnesia, and big data analysis. He is also interested in the research on how augmented reality games on handheld computers designed and used for individuals with disabilities. He advises graduate students on their dissertations using technology in developing innovative technology empowered both online and multimedia training modules to encourage youth to resist alcohol and other substances and cyber bullying education. He is invited regularly to be a guest speaker and has presented nationally and internationally on topics including computer games, cyber security and social networks.
