Fundatia Bambini in Emergenza (BIE) was born in Romania in 1997 thanks to the will and commitment of the Italian journalist Mino Damato who, in the aftermath of the fall of the Ceausescu regime, personally saw the condition in which hundreds of abandoned and HIV/AIDS positive children were admitted to hospital of infectious diseases of the capital. With the Andrea Damato Pilot Center, in southern Romania, BIE is today one of the few organizations in the country authorized to welcome and assist abandoned children born by HIV + mothers and a national reference point in the fight against marginalization.
