The Municipality of Tetovo is located in the north-western part of the Republic of North Macedonia, in the Polog Valley, and part of the settlements are located on the slopes of Shar Planina to the border with Kosovo. The municipality stretches from northwest to southeast. It borders the municipalities of Dragash and Prizren in Kosovo to the north, northwest and west; to the east and southeast with Tearce, Jegunovce and Zelino and to the south with the municipalities of Bogovinje and Brvenica. The city of Tetovo is located in the middle of the Polog Plain next to the mountain Shara around the banks of the river Pena. The municipality consists of 20 settlements: 10 lowlands, 6 hilly and 4 mountainous.
The population of the municipality is 84 770 (Census 2021) of whom approximately 63 176 live in the municipality center city of Tetovo, and 21 594 live in the villages of the municipality
