 Mohamed Megahed, PhD
Currently, a research associate at West Virginia State University 2013-2019 and previously working for National aquaculture group in Saudi Arabia, WorldFish Center. Permanently, a research scientist at National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), Egypt. Having 19 years experience in the field of aquaculture systems and genetic improvement, working in close cooperation with the private sector and business engaged in aquaculture. Strong networks and field experience in Asian and African countries combined with the personality and cultural understanding in a multicultural setting. Having 7 years in senior leadership role in international projects and organizations. Excellent field experience in mobilizing leaders and innovators across business and government in order to achieve social change and development goals throughout aquaculture. Good management and financial experience in leading donor funded projects, such as EU and USAID-funded projects in addition to monitoring and evaluation project activity, budget planning, and technical as well as financial reporting, involving multiple countries, multi-partner and cross-disciplinarity skills and experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams. Having excellent organizational skills, ability to multi task, good analytical ability and good judgment skills. Having high degree of cultural sensitivity and proven record of effective working relationships and knowledge of aquaculture in African and Asian countries (Sudan, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Mauritania, Tunisia, Morocco, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, China, Indonesia, and Thailand) and good research skills in countries priorities in aquaculture, and social science, with a solid understanding of the business environment, innovative finance, and rural livelihoods. I have good experience in resource mobilization for aquaculture and fisheries research and development. Having experience in organizing research communications and dissemination. An understanding of small and medium sized enterprises, agri-business and business planning, along with the ability to mobilize private sector partners. The ability to work effectively with colleagues from complementary disciplines. Capacity to work across multiple environments. Capable of establishing and maintaining an alignment for all players to the development outcome the project wishes to receive (taken into account gender role and organization diversity). Served several international organizations as a consultant, such as African Union, European Union, WorldFish Center and FAO. Currently, is doing a demand driven research to meet stockholder needs and solve challenges in aquaculture (especially disease challenges). Holding BSc in Aquaculture and Fish resources, two master degrees and PhD in Aquaculture having graduated from Ghent University, Belgium in collaboration with AKVAFORSK Genetic Center As, Norway and Suez Canal University, Egypt. In addition to Post-academic Diploma in continuing education related to the post-academics and permanent trainings: “Low Countries studies”. Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University- Belgium. In addition to BSc in law from Faculty of law, Cairo University. The purpose of studying law was to further advocates for conservation of biological resources, access to genetic resources and benefit sharing regulations based on national and international laws and instruments. Also, working for the rights of the community as they are creators of their breeds and custodians of their livestock.
