Self Build Housing and Energy Community (SEBHEC)
Europe is facing a major housing crisis. This crisis is different aspects, homelessness, shortage of homes, lack of affordability, sub-standards conditions, lack for affordability, The housing crisis is computed by the energy emergency, with housing being mostly dependent on fossil fuels, with growing energy poverty The SEBHEC Project proposes a comprehensive and integrated solution to these challenges, based on the capacity of communities to organize and manage their own housing production and management and set up and manage their own energy installations. Carbery Housing and its Directors have extensive experience of both sustainable self-build approaches and the development of solar community installations. We would propose the development of 3 or more pilot project in Partner regions, where we secure planning approval for small clusters of homes, that can both pilot innovative and sustainable self-build approaches and the installation of self-generation (possibly based on solar power), participate in the design and construction of the housing and the renewable energy installations, and after completion have a role in managing band maintaining the housing project and monitoring and managing the self-generation of energy. The pilot project and the processes that will be piloted as a result, will be a valuable contribution to the accelerating of mechanisms to address the housing crisis and to provide tools to promote decarbonisation and move towards Near Zero Carbon.
