NANOMATERIALS INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT FACILITY (NIDF): Our facility specializes in the manufacture and supply of advanced nano and micro materials, including graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), hydrotalcites, modified bentonite clays, nano zinc oxide, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Our infrastructure boasts a state-of-the-art chemical processing plant equipped with high-temperature and pressure chemical reactors, process tanks, a filter press, dryers, and a baghouse. We have developed a cost-effective graphene synthesis technology platform that is readily accessible to local businesses.
CSIR NEXTGEN HEALTH: Our veterinary vaccines and diagnostics group focuses on innovative vaccine research using bacterial and plant-based expression systems, along with the development of point-of-care molecular diagnostic kits. The human molecular diagnostics and omics group is dedicated to advancing the local medical device and diagnostic industry, utilizing in-house microsphere technology for novel workflows and sample preparation, as well as proteomics for clinical research. Our operations are structured around five strategic capability platforms: Health Systems and Digital Health, Medical Devices and Diagnostics, Vaccines, Precision Medicine, and Array Technology.
BIOPROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES: We are at the forefront of developing disruptive bio-based technologies and products, which can be integrated into existing industries or serve as the foundation for new bio-based small, micro, and medium enterprises (SMMEs). Our platform technologies encompass bio-conversions, bio-based products, and biomanufacturing. Our laboratories are fully equipped for microbiology, fermentation (with bioreactors up to 1,000 liters), protein purification, downstream piloting (distillation, evaporation, and extraction), and comprehensive analytical work (GC and HPLC).
ADVANCED AGRICULTURE AND FOOD (AAF) CLUSTER: Our key strategic areas include Precision Agriculture, Agro-Processing, Food Safety, and Enterprise Creation for Development. We leverage multidisciplinary expertise, including climate modeling, remote sensing, geographic information systems, drone technologies, digitization, big data analytics, AI, and machine learning. Our focus encompasses high-value product formulation, food safety testing, and the support of sustainable agri-businesses in rural communities.
ADVANCED POLYMER COMPOSITE RESEARCH GROUP: We specialize in the development of high-performance polymer composites, bioplastics, and bio-composites. We provide research and development innovation services, expertise in material and production process technologies for polymer nanocomposites, and access to a world-class polymer characterization lab.
CSIR SUPERCRITICAL CO2 ENCAPSULATION FACILITY: We are home to Africa’s first supercritical CO2 encapsulation technology with a pilot facility designed for food safety management. This facility enables the encapsulation of active ingredients in an inert atmosphere, enhancing stability and efficacy. It offers production capacities of up to 100 kg per day, supporting scalability studies, production for field trials, and toll manufacturing for commercial purposes.
