Health Andalusian Service (Servicio Andaluz de Salud, SAS) is a public body providing all healthcare services to the 8.4 million inhabitants in Andalusia. It is an autonomous “arms-length” organisation, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of Andalusia. Its mission is to provide high-quality public healthcare to the citizens, ensuring its accessibility and the satisfaction of its users, and seeking efficiency and optimum use of resources. SAS provides healthcare services through a network of integrated healthcare facilities organized to ensure the accessibility of the population: 1,518 primary care centres, 49 hospitals and over 100,000 employees. SAS provides a wide range of healthcare services from preventive and public health activities to highly specialized services, in a system with universal coverage and funded by taxes. SAS will participate in this project through Hospital Regional Universitario de Malaga (HRUM), which forms part of the Health Research Institute of Malaga, IBIMA (), multidisciplinary public institution dedicated to biomedical research and integrates over 60 research groups from the University of Malaga and the Public Health System. IBIMA promote translational research at the biomolecular, clinical, epidemiological, and technological level, facilitating the transfer of scientific advances obtained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the most prevalent health problems.
IBIMA support different research groups. The one which would participate in this proposal is Diabetes, Obesity and other Vascular Risk Factors. Systemic Autoimmune Diseases group (), led by the Dr. Ricardo Gómez Huelgas ()
The Systemic Autoimmune Diseases Unit of the Regional University Hospital of Malaga (HRUM) has the following expertise: - Comprehensive care for patients with systemic autoimmune diseases (SAD) and other rare diseases - This Unit is a reference in the management and control of autoimmune diseases, and other rare diseases - Updated registry of patients with SAD treated in the unit - Continuous training in the area of knowledge of SAD - Participation in research lines and projects in the field of SAD and rare diseases - Participation in clinical trials in the field of SAD and rare diseases
