Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital learning are extensively used across both public and private sectors, offering solutions to various societal challenges like homelessness prevention, agricultural enhancement, and healthcare improvement. However, a significant obstacle facing these technologies is AI bias, which can result in discriminatory outcomes and exacerbate disparities for disadvantaged communities. To tackle this issue, The Media Education Centre aims to establish partnerships with European organizations and institutions to proactively address the potential harms associated with the development and deployment of AI tools and practices.

In this collaborative effort, The Media Education Centre aims to:

  • Expand research opportunities to enable diverse groups to re-evaluate AI bias data.
  • Increase the visibility and entrepreneurial opportunities for underrepresented groups in AI products.
  • Support data accessibility and tools that benefit populations most negatively affected by AI bias.
  • Provide resources to data scientists in underserved communities globally to develop, expand, and maintain equitable digital learning platforms.
  • Build communities with the necessary resources to include vulnerable, marginalized populations, and those facing systemic exclusion from AI institutions.
