The RaDron project has developed an innovative miniature device for the rapid localization of gamma radiation sources, both static and moving, by integrating it into a miniature autonomous drone. The detector, adaptable for handheld imaging and mobile phone accessories, employs a Compton camera with Timepix3 chips and Si and CdTe sensors. Controlled by artificial intelligence, the drone locates radiation sources in challenging environments, including areas without GPS coverage, and can collaborate with multiple drones to expedite detection.

This technology has significant applications in monitoring nuclear deposits, hazardous events like nuclear accidents, and radiation risk assessment for integrated rescue systems. The project also envisions trans-disciplinary applications, integrating satellite data, GIS, and Digital Twin models of urban and industrial areas for enhanced navigation, simulation, and scenario planning.

High-resolution imagery and 3D data are crucial for effective drone navigation in security monitoring and disaster scenarios. GIS provides essential data for evacuation planning and response by offering insights into human settlements, traffic, and industrial activities. In disaster relief, the technology offers before-and-after imagery to assess infrastructure damage and contamination scope, supported by data models and simulations for precise planning.

RaDron's integration into Digital Twin models enables real-life simulations for risk assessment, effectiveness testing, and disaster response scenarios, including natural and man-made disasters. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance disaster management, security monitoring, and response efficiency through advanced drone technology and data-driven insights.
