AIM: To reduce the negative human impact on the environment by changing the ecological consciousness of the population with the help of young people as a promising foundation for territorial development.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Capacity building and improving the competencies of project participants, in particular youth.
2. Promoting ecological culture among Ukrainian-German youth. Minimization of “consumerism”.
ACTIVITY:
ACTIVITIES 1.
Monitoring and analysis of the level of ecological culture of the regions of Ukraine and Germany. 2 videos from participants from Germany and Ukraine, population surveys, statistics, major environmental issues in the regions.
Presentation of the analysis of the situations in Ukraine and Germany on social media
Visit to Germany - Meet with environmental organizations, government organizations, site visits, together youth work to find tools for raising awareness.
Work together on the ecological Manifesto in both video format and official document for future generations and inhabitants of the planet
Discussion and creation of a program of social events (environmental performances, events, meetings).
ACTIVITIES 2.
Creating a platform for communication, attracting a wider audience and weighing the project results and developments (social media pages).
Visit to Ukraine (meetings with environmental organizations, government organizations, site visits, environmental performances, events, meetings).
Widespread project work and results.
Results:
1. A social page in FB, Instagram, Twitter has been created for communication, networking, share information and wide public involvement.
2. Two videos (from UA and German in ENG) has been created with the results of the analysis of the ecological culture of the partner regions of Ukraine and Germany.
3. Created 1 Manifesto in 3 languages (Ukrainian, German, English) for better perception by a wider audience, which will change their attitude towards overconsumption culture
4. A responsible attitude towards the consumption of at least 50 people among the residents of Ukraine and Germany, including young people, has been formed.
5. 22 young and active people have become Eco-conscious Ambassadors of Responsible Consumption
6. At least 200 people participated in the discussions and dissemination of the project's output and results during the events and online.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
We aim to contribute to the implementation of the 13th and 17th Global Sustainable Development Goals, approved at the 2015 UN Summit on Sustainable Development. Namely: Objective 13. Take immediate action to tackle climate change and its effects; Objective 17. Strengthening the implementation tools and stepping up work within the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
It is known that about 70% of the land that is not occupied by ice is already used for growing food, clothing and fuel, as well as for human habitation and other needs. All this leads to the emission of up to a quarter of all greenhouse gases - primarily through clearing land for animal husbandry and growing crops. In general, agriculture is the "fault" for the disappearance of 70% of the forests on the planet.
Contamination of the planet with plastic waste through rash consumerism ("consumerism") is a problem that is urgent for all people and all countries. Plastic wastes pollute the soil, groundwater, seas and oceans. During their combustion, toxic substances are released into the atmosphere.
According to recent estimates by the European Commission, plastic accounts for up to 85% of beach debris, which is a disaster for the marine ecosystem, environment and human life.
As plastic production increases every year, the forecasts are also disappointing. It is expected to increase threefold in 2050 compared to 2014 and account for 20% of global oil consumption.
2020 is a deadline, said one of the leading climate scientists back in 2017. "Mathematical modeling of climate change is a stubborn thing: the planet cannot be cured in the next few years, but it can be mortally wounded by inadvertence by 2020," said Hans Joachim Schellunguber, founder and now honorary director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Change Studies.
Waste treatment and disposal is not a panacea.
The processing industry is just a business. There is a certain economic value to what we throw into the landfill. Paper, plastic bottles, aluminum, metal. There is almost no environmental feasibility. Because to split everything into two streams - landfill and processing - you need to further organize the entire processing industry. This is a huge expense of resources, and therefore additional emissions into the atmosphere.
In Ukraine, the amount of garbage generated by one person is 300-350 kilograms per year. In Germany it is 500 kilograms. Yes, they are clean there, there are no landfills. Former landfills grow green grass and trees. But the amount of waste that a person generates is enormous.
Even if everyone starts sorting the garbage, it won't solve the environmental problems. If humanity had an unlimited amount of time and we could take small steps to improve the environmental situation, then sorting would be the solution.
Our view is clear - we need to radically change the economy model and the consumption model. Otherwise, we will not have the conditions in which we can live. And this will happen not in a thousand or even a hundred years, but in ten. It is our responsibility to reduce our consumption of resources. In today's society, there are many people who are more and more focused on the environmental consumption of resources, and, as far as possible, try to bring environmental concerns into their daily lives. The question is how to do it? Only by changing the environmental consciousness of the population. We propose to start with young people - they are more susceptible to change, and will educate the next generation, and at the same time, we will involve middle and older people in our project, who together can become Ambassadors of responsible - eco-consumption.
That is the purpose of our project.
