Families have spread across Europe and even further, for example Finnish pensioners in Spain or in Sweden. When people get older they are increasingly in need of home and healthcare services which are hard for their younger relatives living in another country to organize. In addition the elderly are gradually forgetting the foreign languages they have previously been fluent with thus making it difficult for local service providers to offer services.
A project to develop EU wide practices for organizing home and healthcare services for elderly living in another country is proposed. Cultural and language barriers as well as legislative should be studied and common guidelines established.
