My organisation is highly interested in finding consortiums working on proposals for this Call and who can perceive the benefits of involving Khora. We have listed ways we can contribute specifically through novel, digital and immersive formats below.

 

 

 

SUMMARY

As an XR (extended reality) company, Khora can contribute by providing VR and AR solutions that 1) stimulate citizens' interest in ocean and waters, 2) boost engagement in ocean's flora and fauna through embodied communication, 3) increase action motivation about the challenges faced by these ecosystems through VR. We are experienced with artistic communities and creative sectors, and seek to use XR to empower and enable us to tackle the ecological polycrisis.

The EU Call, titled "Actions for the implementation of the Mission Restore our ocean and waters by 2030," is part of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. It falls under the category of HORIZON-CSA, which stands for HORIZON Coordination and Support Actions. The deadline for submission is September 20, 2023, at 17:00 Brussels time.

The main objective of this call is to stimulate citizen interest and engagement in ocean and water conservation, as well as to mobilize artistic and creative sectors for the protection and restoration of marine and freshwater ecosystems. The call emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between citizens, museums, aquaria, research institutions, engineers, architects, and the artistic community.

 

To meet the objectives of the call, AR or VR solutions can be utilized in the following ways:

 

1. Develop immersive experiences that showcase the beauty and biodiversity of oceans and inland waters, stimulating citizens' interest and fascination.

2. Create virtual training programs that educate and engage individuals in blue economies, ocean management, and research.

3. Design interactive simulations that raise awareness about the challenges faced by the ocean, such as pollution, habitat loss, and climate change impacts.

4. Utilize AR or VR to facilitate collaborations between artistic communities and scientific researchers, fostering interdisciplinary experimentation and entrepreneurship.

5. Develop virtual tours or exhibitions that connect coastal and maritime communities with their habitats and cultural heritage.

6. Use AR or VR to promote ocean and water literacy, providing innovative and engaging educational experiences for the general public.

By prioritizing these ideas, AR or VR solutions can effectively contribute to the expected outcomes of the call, including stimulating citizen interest, boosting engagement in blue economies, increasing awareness about ocean challenges, mobilizing artistic communities, connecting communities with their habitats, and promoting ocean literacy.
