Conflicts of the past - what do they teach us and do they teach us?

Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, France. These countries (and not only these) had conflicts and territorial claims to each other in the 19th and 20th centuries. How much does this hinder the overall near future of the European Union? What has the past taught us? Maybe we need to forget the past more and move faster towards a strong and united Europe, a federation?
