We are a research team specializing in economics, with affiliations to the University of Palermo (UNIPA), the LUMSA University of Palermo, and the University of Calabria (UNICAL). Our team offers a comprehensive suite of expertise in both theoretical and empirical investigations into the structures and activities of organized crime. This includes, but is not limited to, the systematic infiltration of local governmental bodies and legitimate businesses.

Our scholarly contributions to the field encompass a diverse array of methodological approaches. These range from empirical network analyses focused on the organizational complexities of the Sicilian Mafia to economic evaluations of extortion rackets. Additionally, we have conducted rigorous econometric studies that explore the nexus between social inequality and the proliferation of organized crime, as well as the economic and political ramifications of corruption.

It is noteworthy that our team has a proven track record of successful participation in Horizon-funded research initiatives, specifically those addressing organized crime and terrorism, such as the PROTON project. Additionally, some members of our research team have also served as expert evaluators for Horizon projects, thereby bringing a nuanced understanding of the evaluation criteria and processes, which we consider to be a significant added value. Given this multifaceted background, we are keenly interested in collaborating as part of a consortium that aims to respond to the forthcoming research call on the aforementioned topics
