The food chain has no borders, but there are legal rules and codes of good practice that consumers need to know for an informed choice.

The "accountability" or efficiency, transparency and responsibility in the food ecosystem requires the commitment of all actors. With the coming into effect next December of Regulation (EU) 625/2017 of the European Parliament and the Council, which establishes the principles of Official Control of Food, which enables the establishment of the food safety score or "rating" and the delegation of Official Food Control, the scenario opens up to BC or DL Technologies, and that is why we launched this project that we are now presenting to the EIC Horizon Prize: Blockchain for Social Good.

With the  FoodHY  project, there is a desempowerment of the Official Food Control in favour of a greater data analyst role, with the empowerment of the Food Business Operators that can feedback to each other, with other stakeholders and with the final consumer. This supposes a service of added value for the food ecosystem and a greater guarantee of public health, this being a priority theme of the program, H2020 of Challenge 1 "Health, Demographic Change and Well-being".
