PROJET
TERMINÉ
"Shape coexistance" will be the topic of the Modell Europa Parlament Deutschland 2017 in Berlin. About 150 pupils of year 9 and 10, from all 16 German states will come to Berlin for 6 days in February 2017. Within the frame of the "Structured dialogue" the project is centered around the development and immersion of political participation, focusing on youth empowerment. We will focus on political issues with great relevance for young Europeans like unemployment, the trend to radicalization ?, integration and xenophobia. The method used for the target audience is a simulation of the European Parliament. Altogether, in the course of the project, the young participants will share their experiences with about 30 political decision-makers, multipliers and experts. The issues for the debates will be developed beforehand in a workshop with the committee presidents and the presidents (all of them being former participants of international MEP sessions nominated by their schools and having acquired and deepened knowledge about parliamentary processes in former MEP sessions), suggested by the MEP teams of the participating schools. Extracurricular activities and school MEP simulations will be carried out by the participating schools to prepare the students, based on which 8 delegates will be selected by the each school to participate in the Berlin session. Criteria concerning inclusion, diversity and the principles of equal opportunities will be regarded in the selection process. Special focus will be put on the involvement and participation of pupils with migration backgrounds as well as from underprivileged educational backgrounds to participation in learning, as these young people are especially faced with discrimination. The project will be based on diversity and meet the challenges of the current migration crisis (Paris Declaration). If necessary/useful there will be the opportunity of supplementary individual preparation and mentoring throughout the course of the project. To include students with different backgrounds and approaches, all participants will be offered a choice between topics with different levels of abstraction. Concerning the issues, the participants of the MEP will be actively involved in a political opinion-forming process to enable them to shape substantiated political views and attitudes. Our aim is to use the focus of the Structured Dialogue for promoting Youth participation in Europe, thereby connecting the top-down approach of the SD with the bottom-up needs of the Youth. On the one hand we participate in the official consultations of the European Youth Strategy, on the other hand we link those to the experiences of the Youth concerning Europe, creating the European added value as a basis for European citizenship. Additionally, a forum is made possible for issues which are relevant to the Youth and promote school and extracurricular education. During the plenary session of the MEP.de 2017, to be hold in the German Bundesrat in Berlin, eight resolutions drafted in the committee sessions during the week will be debated and voted on. External political experts will be invited and involved, so a wide range of suggestions and proposals will be contributed by the young participants, forming the basis for the fishbowl discussion with European politicians and decision makers (among others members of the EU parliament) from different political parties and fields. The dialogue between Youth and Politics will be sustainable and transparent, so that there will be a transfer of the suggestions of the Youth to the field of politics.Long-term effects will be ensured, as before and after the actual simulation the students will discuss the issues with politicians and decision-makers at the schools and in the community. Dissemination will be achieved through the newly-designed MEP website as well as the project documentation, with texts being written by the participants of the project. 20 especially motivated students will be invited to a seminar as an extra preparation (including and promoting language skills, intercultural aspects and the issues themselves) to enable them to actively and successfully participate in the international sessions. The impact on the students will be marked by a sustainable insight into the procedures, functioning, and relevance of the European Parliament, as well as into the European integration processes. Numerous key competences will be strengthened, new potentials discovered. All in all, further social commitment of the students will be promoted. In troubled times of crises, self-orientation, self-assurement, and self-efficacy are needed, which will be promoted through the participation in the project due to the official embedding and the political setting. The project has been appreciated and is supported by the Bundesrat (Federal Council) and the Bundespressekonferenz (federal press conference).
