The system we live in causes people’s priorities and judgements to change, it causes us to gradually lose the cultural identity that makes us who we are. Identity is formed and developed through conscious memories.Acquisition of cultural memory is achieved through several types of verbal expression like stories, legends, tales and odes which embody cultural nuances and are carried on from generation to generation. Unfortunately these types verbal expression are becoming increasingly rare and even face extinction due to the diminished number of storytellers and because people are no longer interested in these matters.Socio-cultural practices, rules and rituals that govern social life and called Xabze by the Circassians are either completely forgotten or have lost their integrity due to incorrect observance of these rites. This project comprises video footage from living witnesses of the Circassian culture from Sakarya and Düzce regions and aims at determining what has changed, been forgotten or practiced incorrectly in this specific culture and as such relay the Circassian culture to the next generations in the correct manner. This will enable youngsters to reclaim their cultural identities to a large extent and also endow them with teamwork skills in the due course. This is a regional project and it is scheduled to last 165 days. Non-formal education method will be employed during this project.
