The students in a Year 3 of Vocational School in Rybnik of Zakład Doskonalenia Zawodowego in Katowice participated in a project. They are studying to be cooks. It was planned a 3-week practical training in which took part one group of 10 students with 3 supervisors.
These students have never had an opportunity to go on a practical training abroad. They did not use any extra forms of education abroad, too. Nowadays the former students of Vocational School are well – educated theoritically. However, if they have to use their knowledge in a practical way it seems that they do not possess any self – confidence and they do not know how to serve a customer professionally. After graduating from school students are going to run their own buisness like restaurants or snacks bars. We wanted our students to gain some extra skills that allow them to provide a culinary service on the highest level with using foreign languages easily and with using modern technologies in a culinary service – mainly vacuum packing. The abroad training became an excellent way of exchanging some experience, gaining some practical skills and learning how to work in a team.
Competitivness of a worker on the European work market bases on constant increasing employee's s qualifications and practical knowledge. Exchanging some experience and knowledge between Polish and Italian students let them assess their education in face to face with the reality on the European work market. The main aim of this project was to increase and correct vocational skills what caused better work competence. What is more, it lets use new solutions in the future work and it makes easier to run own culinary service.
The detailed aims were: increasing attractivness of vocational education, making easier to develop yourself, encouraging to constant education, rising language qualifications of students, gaining an abilty to serve a foreign customer.
The expected results were: gaining new work skills,like using modern equipment, learning of vacuum packing, knowing better and preparing traditional Spanish food, receiving a cetificate of a participation in a training abroad, getting a certificate comfirming a cultural and language preparation.
