This year we decided to use the grant to publish the second or the umpteenth work of 4 authors we've already published, and introduce one new author. All of them are internationally recognized authors and the pieces of literature we have chosen by them carry an important artistic value. Besides these novels also examine aspects of social, mental and even philosophical problems and issues, most of them mainly concerning childhood, adolescence and child-parent relationship accordingly analyzing the structure of societies in Europe. What is more, they have the potential to rise the attention of a wider public. We believe that Hungarian readers should be able to benefit from these works.Kim Leine’s deep and shocking debut novel, Kalak is an exposing self portrait which deals with the topics of domestic abuse and drug addiction revealing the psychological background of addiction, major problem of our present-day societies. Ian McEwan’s novel, The Children Act puts ideas of adult responsibility on trial with a plot that revolves around parents who are refusing treatment for their sick son because of their religious beliefs. However the story is not simply an examination of the irresponsibility of extreme faith but of personal responsibility whether as a parent, partner or friend.Varsleren tells about the parent’s responsibility and psychological correlations through a story in which a disturbed teenager with an alcoholic mother makes brutal pranks in his attempt to make his own pain go away. The damage the boy’s mother inflicted on him reverberates through the lives of countless other people.Lykkens sønn concentrates on the psychological issues of a mother-son relationship and at the same time depicts life and historical events in 19th century Europe. Meelis Friedenthal’s novel, Mesilased takes the reader to 1696, Estonia which provides an interesting vantage point to view the culture and ideas which were central in the development of modern Europe.
