Youth Research - Social impacts of climate change
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

“Youth Research – social impacts of climate change” Greenhouse effect, food shortage and an increasing growth of world's population: the world is facing major environmental challenges. Since the beginning of the industrialization, humans are interfering in the ecosystem of planet earth. The consequences are already visible and demand a new environmental policy, which supports climate and species protection. Experts warn against the consequences, which are among other things a result of global warming: Because of increasing temperatures the glaciers starts to melt which causes the sea level to rise. Several small island states and coastal regions are affected by these floods and numerous people become refugees. The desert is spreading on and on and the drinking water supplies are decreasing by penetrating salt water. Agricultural areas are not irrigated adequate and lose their function. The risk for natural disasters increases. The earth is the living space of people and provides resources for our daily life. Not only because out of respect to nature we should protect our environment, but also to protect the livelihood of the people. The fact of the matter is however that the respect of natural awareness seems to be more important than it actually is: more and more people are losing interest in nature. The knowledge about regional species and the understanding for connections in the nature vanishes. Forests are cleared for new residential areas and excessive fishing activity is destroying biodiversity. The inestimable social and cultural value of nature is likely to be ignored. People protect what they know. Therefore it is really important for children and young adults to get in touch with nature in every possible way. But to get in touch with nature is still not enough. Children and young adults should learn that the protection of livelihoods like forests and oceans as well as the conservation of biological diversity is relevant aspect. This also includes the conservation of animal species and ecosystems. When the basis of human life and all other living beings should be maintained, they have to solve these problems in the long-term. The aim of this project „Youth Research“ is to create a basis for ecologically responsible actions, behavior and decisions among young people. Particular importance is to arouse joy and interest in nature. Following the principle “people protect what they know” young adults from Germany, Denmark and Spain will discuss environmental topics and acquire new knowledge about the environment and the climate change. The project „Youth Research“ has a good look at topics like protection of species, nature, environment, climate as well as renewable energy, consumption, resources and rubbish. During the project the young adults are supposed to work with current topics relating to environmental policies from their countries and portray the meaning of these policies in their native countries. Besides team and cooperation games, nature and environmental educational activities in groups like workshops and discussions form the basis of this project. The kids learn from experiences in nature, which position the human being has in ecosystems and how important the protection of nature and environment is. Make them aware that they have the right to participate actively in the environmental protection, to make an effort for personal interests and concerns. Principles relating to environmental policies will be explained and political ambitions enhanced. Besides the environmental view of content and discussions, the young adults gain insights into cultural differences of participating countries. Intensive communication and interaction processes between young adults with a different social and cultural background give them the chance to hear about other values of environmental policies. Within this process develops an understanding of existing differences and possible similarities of environmental political structures in various countries. Partner countries will be included in the elaboration of the topics of the workshops as well as in planning the activities under the participation of the kids. The children are equal partners during the whole project, who play an important role for carrying out the project. To have a share of the responsibility for the realization and development of this program is an important value for the young adults. The participants document their learning experiences, which make their personal development visible. In this way we support the participants personal, social and intellectual.
