Youth mobility for intercultural competence
Date du début: 1 déc. 2011,

The seminar “Youth mobility for intercultural competence” will gather 21 volunteers, 4 experts and 2 support staff from 7 countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Romania, and Switzerland) in Romania. EFIL is currently working on establishing new volunteer driven exchange organisations in Romania, Bulgaria and Greece and therefore aims at developing further intercultural competences of individuals interested or involved in volunteering in youth exchange organisations. The focus of this seminar will be on cultural diversity in Europe and how to promote it through gained cultural competences. This seminar will be the first in a series of activities focusing on volunteer development leading to a sustainable volunteer group. EFIL, as the applicant organisation, will co-ordinate all the project activities, however the hosting role will be played by the Tulcea County Youth Foundation.During the 5-day programme participants will share their experiences as volunteers with Youth Mobility in Europe through international exchange programmes. Intercultural learning (ICL) through exchanges will be discussed leading to a debate on how ICL can be transformed into intercultural competence. Non-formal learning methods will be used throughout the seminar (for more details see activity programme attached) and will allow participants to experience intercultural learning and reflect on it afterwards. Starting from personal experiences the seminar will move to a reflective stage and the further to a proactive stage, where participants are encouraged to develop strategies and tools on how to apply their partly newly gained intercultural competence into their daily work with youth exchanges. As key volunteers, the seminar participants will have a great multiplying effect as they will pass on gained knowledge to their peer volunteers. The outcomes of the project will thus benefit a great number of young Europeans involved directly and indirectly in exchange organisations.
