The project “YOUTH EMPOWERMENT by LEARNING how to truly CARE for OLDER people"- “YELCO” is a youth exchange which is financed by the European Comission through Erasmus+ programme (2014-2020), Key Action 1 in youth worker mobility. The project will last between 1/09/2016 until 28/2/2017, while the youth exchange itself will take place in Nicosia between 15/10/2016 to 04/11/2016, including travel days. In this Youth exchange we will have 35 participants over 18 years old (including 7 youth leaders) from 7 countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Italy, Poland and Czech Republic ) all countries facing relatively high unemployment and relative lack of opportunities for ongoing professional youth training and development. Our main objectives are to provide youth with a better understanding of :- the challenges and opportunities in working with elders in need. - If being a carer related to elders is something that will provide short and long term employment satisfaction for the individual youth- the methodologies used for discovering what professions are appropriate for each individual youth, so that each youth can apply them in their future search as well- combining formal, non-formal and informal learning, same time.- their own weaknesses and where they can develop further-more appreciation in learning from other young people who have different values, skills and behaviors than we have. This Youth Exchange aims to explore in a European context, the challenges and opportunities in supporting elders in need and through that learn a lot more about themselves, other youth from other countries and the other generations’ needs and reflect/compare them to their own needs. This youth exchange aims challenge the participating youth and their youth leaders, in many ways, much more than Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges normally do, both because of the relative long duration of this y.e. and because of the topic chosen. Also this Youth Exchange, being part of Erasmus+ projects, aims to:- develop further the ability to use different types of education (formal, non-formal, informal) in the area of team building and effective team working.- To consolidate their knowledge about the world of Erasmus+, the Youth-Pass, Project writing/implementing and the 8 key competences- To grow even more culturally aware and to form friendships,/ network for future partnerships- To learn by doing (in cooperation with local care units and tips from professionals)- To introduce youth in thinking more actively and with more imagination when exploring work opportunities, in their community, nationally and at a European level.Together with our partners we will create a suitable learning environment and use mostly non-formal methods of education. The programme will be adapted in a matter of most optimal learning experience.
