Youth empowerment and social inclusion through Mus..
Youth empowerment and social inclusion through Music in Southern Africa and Europe
Date du début: 1 sept. 2011,
The overall purpose of the project is to stimulate the intercultural interaction between young African and European musicians, first in Africa (Nov-11) followed by a tour in Europe (May-June 2012), thereby to better understand the conditions and situation in both continents. To do so, we have decided to stage the project within the existing MC framework:The MC core activity is a set of annually recurring festival-workshop-campuses on local, provincial, national and interregional levels being organized in the 5 countries ¡n Africa; each of these events span from 1.5 to 3 days (depending on number of participants and available funding on local level) and contains 2 full days of workshops on music and music business skills training and a Relationship workshop focusing on the fight against HIV/AIDS, ending with a festival concert with all participating bands/artists from which a jury selects the best acts to proceed to the next level. The objective of the project is to organize the Interregional Festival & Campus (IRCF) 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique, from the 21st to the 26th November 2011. The IRCF is the most important Core Activity of the Music Crossroads program which includes four different components:a) social and cultural interaction and intercultural exchangeb) music vocational training workshopsc) information, awareness and sensitization workshopsd) concert performance ande) competitionThe hosting of the InterRegional Campus & Festival (IRCF) rotates annually from country to country and in 2011 the event will be organized from the 21st to the 26th November 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique, in the Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano, where the concerts and the final competition will be organized, and in the Centro Cultural MunicipalÄindya, where the music and professional skills workshops and the Relationship workshops will be held. That rRegional Campus & Festival (IRCF) will bring 100 young African people coming from Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique to participate in that important music and social event. Also will come to Maputo 35 young musicians from Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Spain and Holland with the objective of exchanging and sharing experiences and best practices between young people from Europe and Africa. Each national Music Crossroads partner in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique will select the best two groups from their respective National Campuses & Festivals to participate in the InterRegional Campus & Festival(IRCF).As well the two partners of the project, JMI and JAM will select one youth band from Belgium and one from Holland, as well as one band from other European countries, e.g. from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Spain through the JMI network(still to determine), will also select 1 youth bands respectively to participate in the IRCF in Maputo, with the objective of stimulating the intercultural exchange and interaction between young people from Europe and Africa.
