During Call 2014 (July 2014 - June 2016) the consortium has put a lot of effort into improving the organisation and to realise the goals of the project. Firstly a few comments on the organisation. In September 2015 the consortium received a ‘Charter for Mobility’. In principle this is proof that the quality of the international activities on offer is good, but the comments of the assessors were reason for the committee of the consortium to improve some matters, that weren’t quite in order.
The first step the committee has taken is writing a joint vision document (see attachment), that has been set in January 2016 by the executive board of the colleges that are involved. Then we started to sort out a document flow. During a meeting on June 9th 2016 the committee has instructed all the workgroup members of internationalisation of the three collegs about which documents should be used in the case of an international mobility. With that we agreed that from now on we are all going to use the same documents. Furthermore the information managers ICT are currently developing a plan to digitalise the process of subsidy application until the delivery of the required documents. Last ROC Friese Poort decided to appoint a fulltime coordinator for internationalisation within the school year 16/17. He/she will get the task of strengthening the organisation and support of internationalisation within ROC Friese Poort.
For both the group of teachers as well as the group of students the consortium had formulated their own goals. For the teachers the goals were on the field of sharing knowledge, working together and strengthening the international dimension of the organisation. Looking back we can say that the set of goals have been achieved. During Call 2014 a lot of teachers and staff have visited schools abroad, made agreements for mutual exchanges, and picked up knowledge and inspiration. We have become aware that internationalisation should become a bigger part of the human resources policy and serves as support of the team planning. In that area we’re gonna have to move forward. During Call 2014 146 staff members went abroad (and 16 more for Call 2013). Teachers that have gone abroad come from different sectors, such as ICT, nursing, care, retail management, marketing or working for a supporting service, like educational development. The foreign activities were mostly aimed at sharing knowledge, the setting up of partnerships and following training. The impact of aforesaid activities was that the teachers have picked up new knowledge and inspiration for themselves and for their team.
In the application we had formulated the following goals for the students:
developing professional, personal, intercultural and language skills. From the feedback we receive from students (participant reports, presentations) we can say that the students have strengthened their skills in aforesaid area’s. But their personal development has developed the most. Students indicate that they have become more independent, learned how to deal with cultural differences, learned how to adjust to local situations and have built of more confidence.
For Call 2014 484 students went abroad (+82 for Call 2013). Students that have gone abroad come from the studies ICT, welfare, care, business, construction, marketing, security, tourism and hospitality. The biggest part went abroad for a placement, as a part of their studies. In a few cases the students took an exam. Through the foreign experience the students have reflected a lot on their professional and personal competences. By going abroad the students discover there are difference in culture and methods.
Because more students have gone abroad, we expect that internationalisation will become a more and more natural activity. The increase leads to a more permanent place of internationalisation and integration in the curriculum.
