Young Leaders as Active Citizens

PROJET
TERMINÉ
Youth as an active group in society can and should be active citizens and play a vital role in development of their respective communities based on principles of democratic societies.
Active citizenship is a process of becoming responsible for one’s surrounding, for other individuals and for society in which we live. This responsibility can take many shapes and forms. It is not responsibility which one can or should be forced to accept but one which young people freely choose to engage in. It is voluntarily commitment to the development of a society and tackling ‘global’ problems on local level. As have been mentioned above, many young people have desires, passions and will to participate and to act for betterment of society as a whole. It may not be expressed through voting or in formal ways, but it is there. This is where youth organizations can come in and reshape youth activities as a tool for social, political, cultural and even economical change.
The aim of the project was to strengthen the capacity of youth work multipliers in running programs targeting enhancement of young people’s leadership potential and active citizenship;
The specific objectives of the training were:
• To reflect on their personal leadership style, values, attitudes and skills in relation to leading in a diverse world.
• To learn how to develop and implement leadership programmes that would lead to enhancement of young people’s leadership potential.
• To explore active citizenship issues from participants own experience and the resources and opportunities available to address issues of concern
• To gain a better understanding of how to include people with different cultural backgrounds in theirs teams.
• To benefit from new knowledge and ideas on how to be more inclusive in their leadership role.
• To return home with new knowledge and ideas on how to be more inclusive in their leadership role with young people
• To gain understanding of leadership and active citizenship as a powerful tool for inclusion, empowerment and personal development
During 9 days of training experience 26 youth workers had chance to:
Acquire new skills and knowledge about Leadership and Active Citizenship;
Be equipped with the skills in Non-formal Education (NFE) and Education for Active Citizenship;
Strengthen leadership capacity of youth work multipliers;
Be able to implement active citizenship approach in their work and in their everyday reality;
Gain greater understanding of the Erasmus + programme and its benefits for the youth work;
The project increased participants positive awareness of other cultures and leadership styles: this project brought together youth workers from 8 countries that collaborated with local youth workers, and this multicultural team worked together and contributed to each others learning process. During the training course, three whole evenings on intercultural education were be included based on use of non-formal methods and activities assuring a deeper process of awareness and insights about cultural connections and how they are affecting youth work and daily lives of young people.
