Due to the growing youth unemployment in Europe,both the EU and national governments have been increasingly focusing on Vocational Education and Training (VET) as a way to help young people to access better,more stable jobs. We believe that it is important that young people in VET get a voice in the debate and that their opinions and views are brought forward.Only through active involvement in decision making processes of learners in VET,they will feel ownership over their education and help to create a valuable contribution to the European society.In 2012 OBESSU developed a campaign for VET school students in Europe focusing on their voice in society.For three days in February,20 talented student activists will meet in Brussels (Belgium) for a training course to plan a great European campaign, and explore how they can work together towards providing a voice for young people in VET in their country and the rest of Europe.The training course "YOUng campaigners for VET" will provide them with campaigning tools and ideas as well as with knowledge about the European dimension of youth and VET policies.Through their attendance,participants will develop skills useful in their youth work as well as in all other sectors.Moreover they will learn to transmit those skills to others empowering them and act as multipliers.Prior to the on-site training,participants will take part in a 4 weeks e-course where they learn about all aspects of VET and labour market with a youth perspective.The lessons of this e-course will be developed in cooperation with European partners in the VET and youth employment field and will address topics such as youth employment,VET in the economic crisis,quality assurance and student democracy.The whole event will lead up to the launch of the European campaign "Claim your voice - stand up for vocational education and training" which will be officially presented at a reception at the end of three days where all relevant stakeholders will be invited.
