“UrEU” is a project by Università degli Studi Roma Tre, aimed at spreading EU content as well as promoting reflection and debate about EU issues among students aged 16-18, and teachers of the secondary schools (including Vocational Education Training schools) of the Italian region Lazio. Acknowledging the little attention paid to EU matters within Lazio secondary schools, and in order to make an effective contribution to the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy and the ET 2020 - which deem pivotal, for the sake of smart growth, a quality education and training – as well as of the Lisbon Treaty – which encourages the participation of young people in democratic life in Europe – this project pursues the following objectives: Objective 1: The enhancement of the European dimension within secondary studies; Objective 2: The increase of students' interest in understanding and participating in the EU; Objective 3: The improvement of teachers' awareness on EU issues. To achieve the above objectives, the following four activities will be carried out: Activity 1: The five-day tour “European Awareness Days”; Activity 2: Five workshops addressing secondary school teachers, titled “What if... A European Citizenship Education @ School?”;Activity 3: Participation in "Ventotene Seminar 2014"; Activity 4: Five workshops addressing secondary school students, titled “Learning Europe @ School”; Activity 5: The final conference “Youth Participation in the EU: A Challenge for Education”.As a result, students' and teachers' awareness of EU matters and scope will be improved. Moreover, students' knowledge on EU opportunities will be widened, and, consequently, their life prospects broadened. Therefore, this project will positively impact on the European Union polity, in so far as this will benefit from a more active and conscious citizenship.
