As the biggest youth organisation in Finland, the Guides and Scouts of Finland aims to be the forerunner in equipping its members for active citizenship. This project provides the participating young people and decision-makers an excellent opportunity for a genuine dialogue between generations on both regional and national levels. Through the training phase, the participating young people gain the necessary competences to engage in a dialogue with decision-makers. Additionally, they will gain experience from the work of the Finnish parliament, the state and content of Finnish national and regional youth policies, the European Youth Strategy and the external relations activities of the Guides and Scouts of Finland. On national level, the main themes stem from the EU Youth Strategy and the topic of participation, one of the eight strategic priority areas. The main partner of the project, the decision-makers, are the Finnish parliament members who have guide and scout sympathies. The project is a result of a youth-led initiative. As one of its main activities, young people organise training sessions and related events to other young people on national, regional and local levels. Secondly, through these trainings, the project aims to provide the participating young people with skills and competences for participation in decision making in both in and outside guiding and scouting. Thirdly, the project aims to ensure that also the participating decision-makers learn from the dialogue with young people. Finally, the resulting skills, competences, attitudes, networks and contacts will help the participating young people to continue working on these issues in local and regional level also after the training phase of the project. Through these various activities, the project empowers both the individual participating young people and facilitates the development of the organisational capacity of the Guides and Scouts of Finland in the field of external relations.
