YE - Partner Countries - Remembrance: Taking us forward
Date du début: 10 mai 2016, Date de fin: 9 oct. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project sprang from a wish to rekindle cooperation between organisations from two friendship towns, Narvik and Kikinda. Over meetings, we conceptualised a need we wished to address, and found a means of expression that worked for us. We wish to focus on people's displacement, forced and other, and draw parallells to historical displacements of WWII, as a way to encourage reflection among young people about human plight, past and present. The partner countries involved in this project all have a recent past of being involved in conflict and war that led to a large scale displacement of people. Our idea is to base part of the activity on our countries’ involvement in WWII, and show how there are parallels between people’s plights then and now; that there is something timeless about displacement and the reasons for it, plus indeed how we can learn lessons from history that are relevant for us today. The project bears the working title “Remembrance: Taking us forward”. It consists of one youth exchange of 8 days (+ travel days), to be hosted in Kikinda, Serbia in the summer of 2016. The participating youngsters will be between 16 and 19 years of age, 27 participants all in all, and will come from Norway, Serbia, France and Poland - countries that were all pulled into various events of WWII in the location of the applicant organisation, Narvik. The objectives of the project are as follows:- To challenge stereotypes and prejudices of young people.- To foster friendships among young people from different countries.- To encourage reflection on how history affects us today and consider how we can use historical knowledge to our advantage as youth.- To stimulate young people’s positive participation in society. The working methods will follow the values and principles of non-formal education. The project activity is based around a few central elements: 1) A multi-day workshop called "Memories". The workshop will aim to produce some kind of performance by and with the participants. More description below. 2) Storytelling; as a means to highlight the power of memories, as well as how they can inspire others, even a long time after. 3) "Mission Z". This is an interactive board game that has been developed by a KA2 Strategic Partnership, which seeks to showcase how conflict between nations can arise, and give a chance to experience how conflict can (or cannot) be managed. 4) In addition we will run a number of smaller exercises of non-formal learning, including "One step forward" and other exercises which are tried and tested by all partners in previous projects and daily activities.Among the expected impacts on the participants is that they will improve their competences, including skills, knowledge and attitude, in at least the following:- An increased awareness of stereotypes and prejudices.- Some improved historical knowledge, with an emphasis on how historical events affect us still today, and how we can utilise such knowledge to our advantage even now.- Improve their foreign language skills.- Improve their understanding of different cultures and traditions. The participating organisations are all committed to youth work in their local contexts, and we expect that all partners will benefit with new learning, not least from the experiences shared by the participants of other countries. Further, we hope it will benefit the organisations to get access to more knowledgeable and inspired young people in their home communities as a result of this project. Our desired impacts on a local level include trying to inspire people who are living in Kikinda, especially young people who are living with high levels of unemployment and few opportunities. On an international level much of our desired impact runs along the same lines as our expected and desired impact on the participants. We wish to raise the awareness about stereotypes, prejudice and generalisations - the topics we are working with in this project. We hope our participants will be agents of multiplication also after the project, and we will work hard to equip them with good tools, including courage, knowledge, know-how, and not least a high-quality video of the project activity.
