Y-POETRY 2011 - 2012Young people between the ages of 15 and 17 from four European cities. Poets and performance artists peform on new podia. Secondary school teachers and adult visitors and their guests from neighbouring countries meet and exchange ideas. Theme: The CityWorkshops and preliminaries in Berlin, London, Antwerp and Amsterdam, seminars with guests from contiguous countries: Ireland, France, Poland. Festival final in Amsterdam: young people from the participating countries get together for three days and compete to decide which is the best poemObjectives- Inspiring young people from different European cities and various social levels by introducing them to poetry and each other- Creating/generating a dialogue between youths from other cities and countries.- Expanding co-operation and exchange of ideas between cultural institutions, schools, artistes and countries.- Offering artists and poets the opportunity to perform on stages outside of their native countries.- Introducing teachers and literary organisations from each country to a poetry-education workshop.- Making a contribution to a European exchange of (practical) insights into cultural education.- Actively and practically promoting literature and modern poetry of the various countries.- Exchanging high quality modern poetry. - Enhancing talent. Giving young people the chance to develop their skills further.- Improving co-operation and collaboration between the participating cities.Y-Poetry effectuates contact between young people from different European cities and divergent social levels. Adult visitors to the program - wherein young people recite their own poems - are given a "new insight" into the social environment of young people.Y-Poetry not only encourages the cultural exchange between amateur and professional, society and school, poetry and other art forms, but also crosses the cultural "interface" between youth and adults from the various contries.
