Lower Secondary School number 2 was established in 1999 in Konin, and it is a school with individualized educational units. We educate students at the age of 13 to 16 in regular classes as well as individualized classes. Therefore, students with mental and physical disabilities have the opportunity to attend our school.
Not only do we recognize the diversity of intellectual norms of our students, but we also notice the clearly drawn boarders of social differences. Since, lots of children come from families of lower financial and social status, the lack of role models causes the decrease in their motivation to graduate. Due to that fact, we want to counteract the phenomenon of early drop-outs or low attendance rate, which consequently leads to school dismissal. We would like to do our best to consistently build their identity, wake their motivation and willingness by showing them the ideal image of modern school which both educates and shows how to do it and for what purpose.
As a school, we are involved in numerous projects which help us introduce ICT in teaching. We put great emphasis on the use of active methods together with multimedia in teaching process. That is why we would like to develop our teachers' skills with the means of job shadowing with other technologically advanced schools. The use of ICT in Science will help us engage students in those subjects and improve the results of final exams. The issue is crucial as we struggle with the low exam results in our school every year.
Our school has not taken part in the International projects so far. Applying for KA1 grants is our first step in this field. The next step will be related to KA2 project as far as student exchange is concerned. For that reason we want to train our teachers in the scope of content and language skills. Majority of our teachers do not speak English, and thus, they (11 teachers) are going to take part in language courses abroad as to participate more effectively in job shadowing programme.
Job shadowing with our partner school in Karlsruhe will give us the opportunity to observe technologically advanced school and apply good practices in our institution. Owing to the partnership, we will have the possibility to learn other ways of technology application in education, especially when teaching Science, and its effective usage in teaching students with different language skills. As far as our cooperation is concerned, we are going to share our experience in the field of Art. Taking into account the fact that our school goal is to develop greatly in the field of Art, which is one of the premises set in the development programme of our institution, we are willing to learn new forms of art used in the work with students from other European countries. We would like to see art and handcraft workshops as to find the inspiration for further educational work.
The partner from Turkey will give us the opportunity to pay close attention to the methods of work used in Art education of their students. The school is experienced in staging art shadow performances which they make available on their website. They use unconventional methods in language teaching using drama techniques and developing their acting skills. They teach three languages in school. Due to the cultural diversity, our Turkish partner will support us in the promotions of open- mindedness and unity.
Moreover, five of our teachers will take part in methodology training in order to improve their ICT skills and become familiar with other innovative methods in the process of foreign language and art teaching.
The cooperation with other European schools will lead to the introduction of some new good practices in the life and level of education of our school, one of which will be learning through experiencing leaving behind the old role model of learning by heart.
Our attendance in the project will contribute to the promotion of our institution in the local environment, which is a really urgent need because of the unfavorable location of our school that is on the outskirts of the city. Our Lower Secondary School will gain more European dimension thanks to the international trainings and cooperation.
