The project: Supporting the six-year-olds. Brain-friendly teaching in the transition from pre-primary to primary education is a response to legislative changes lowering school age in Poland. It is also a result of long search for more effective teaching methods supporting child's development. The project is developed by two schools with long history of cooperation: Polish pre-primary and primary school Promienie from Nadarzyn near Warsaw and Senara school in Madrid established over 50 years ago. Both these schools focus on personal education of children. The choice of this partner was determined by mutual contacts and by the fact that children in Spain start primary school at the age of 6. The choice of brain friendly teaching resulted from newest brain research which focuses on the 6/7 age as essential for brain development and natural motivation to learn. Brain friendly teaching assumes that a child wants to learn naturally and that natural motivation should be protected, reinforced and referred to in teaching processes.
The project participants are: 12 teachers and 2 schoolheads. The main mobilities in the project are: brain friendly teaching courses in the UK and Spain as well as a week of job shadowing in pre-primary school in Spain focused on strategies for admission of six-year-olds.
The expected results are brain friendly teaching methods used in pre-school and primary education and a preparation of a model ensuring good and safe transition between pre-primary and primary education based on the knowledge of brain and child general development respecting natural child's curiosity.
The Nadarzyn school belongs to the net of schools focused on personal education and for that reason the project results will be widely disseminated in this network.
