Working with Depaul UK's Homeless Youth 2015
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project was based with Depaul services across England which have been developed to support disadvantaged young people between the ages of 16 – 25 who are homeless, marginalized or otherwise vulnerable. Depaul's aim is to support these young people who use these services to learn to live independently and help them to move on to stable and sustainable accommodation. We have hosted European volunteers for 13 years now. The EVS participants in this project played a significant role in helping Depaul to achieve these objectives during their time with us. The EVS participants worked at the supported accommodation projects in both the North West and North East of England. They were tasked with offering the young residents encouragement and support in various different aspects of their personal development including in some cases, educational support. The participants worked alongside trained staff. They were involved in day-to-day activities in our projects as well as creating their own sessions with the young people for example leading healthy cooking sessions, running CV writing workshops, teaching basic DIY skills, facilitating workshops on other life skills such as hygiene and cleaning and also running sports sessions. All of the Depaul Accommodation projects provide different offers for young people depending on the support they need until they are ready for independent living. During their time on the pathway they also have access to different Depaul services such as Money Management, Meaningful Activities and Skills to Succeed (a programme helping young people get into work). The EVS participants help with and lead on the delivery these activities. Surrounding our North and South Tyneside accommodation projects there are also drop-in centres which several of these EVS participants were based at. It is evident from the EVS participant reports that they felt the project met its intended objectives. All of these participants received regular supervision and support. They discussed their own personal learning and development objectives and all of them progressed whilst also meeting our organisational aims and objectives. Once again the potential benefits for Depaul through hosting EVS participants were numerous. Across all stakeholders in the organsiation learnt so much from our EVS volunteers about different cultural perspectives and ideas.
