Wings of Hope in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 janv. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Voluntary Service International (VSI) is the coordinating and sending organisation in this EVS project involving one young male from Ireland volunteering in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the hosting organisation Wings of Hope (WOH) for 12 months from October 2014 to September 2015. Knowing the impact the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina had on education, one of Wings of Hope's primary functions is helping and educating people who have not had the opportunity to finish their formal education. They see multilingualism as an integral part of improving people's employability and helping them become successful members of society. To complete this, they are focusing on creating a project to build an English language course which will provide direct instruction to disadvantaged students and youth but will also help their organization continue providing a higher level of education to these people upon the completion of the project. The project uses innovative, learner-centred pedagogical approaches and aims to promote accreditation among students according to the CEFR for languages and awareness of the benefits of certification of their progress through internationally recognized awards (e.g. Cambridge exams). This project aimed to help the volunteer take part in helping to build an English language course which provided direct instruction to disadvantaged children, young people and adults. The main objectives were curricula creation, advancing the employability of students, and providing professional skills for locals who want to become English teachers. The volunteer improved his professional skills and competencies, he became better able to manage his career and has decided to now focus on the facilitation of lifelong learning and helping others in Ireland and internationally to reach their educational goals through non-formal and informal education. The volunteer also improved his 'soft' skills through this EVS experience such as increased confidence and self-knowledge. The two partner organizations have developed their relationship and increased their knowledge of implementing international volunteer projects and of the themes of the project.
