Wikipédia dobrovoľníkom, dobrovoľníci Slovensku
Date du début: 1 mars 2015, Date de fin: 29 févr. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The international youth organization Education@Internet (E@I) from Slovakia created a project under the name “Wikipedia for volunteers, volunteers for Slovakia”, to give a chance to young people so they could gain valuable knowledge and skills, show their creativity and imaginativeness and at the same time contribute to the development of the organization and to positive promotion of Slovakia. The project covers the program country, Slovakia, and the partner country, Georgia. It will take place in the town of Partizánske, Slovakia, and its surroundings, from the 1st of March 2015 to the 29th of February 2016. During 12 months, E@I will host two volunteers from Georgia. The main goal of the project is to give a detailed knowledge of the functioning of Wikipedia and its side projects (Wikimedia Commons, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, etc.) to the volunteers and to teach them the possibilities Wikipedia offers. E@I is very well aware what a powerful tool in today’s Internet world Wikipedia is. Millions of users from all social classes use it everyday. However, target topics are created only in few language versions, or they have a very different quality and extent. Working on Wikipedia requires self-learning or education training and not every organization is able to provide it. Although modern society emphasizes a free access to information as the privilege of a democracy and freedom, this principle is not always respected in real life: free and open education resources vary in quality and amount, depending on countries and languages. The goal of the project “Wikipedia for volunteers, volunteers for Slovakia” is to partly remove this problem for the benefit of Slovakia and E@I’s educational projects. The volunteers will not be working exclusively on the Internet. They will take part in live lectures and workshops about Wikipedia and free education. The QR-town action, which will happen in Slovakia for the first time ever, is currently being prepared. The volunteers will stick QR codes on various cultural monuments which will, after being scanned by a mobile device, open the appropriate article on Wikipedia. The volunteers will also take part in the main projects of E@I. The volunteers will be led by mentors who will introduce them to the work and the life in the country quite quickly. They will be helping them from a professional as well as human point of view, especially when it comes to everyday life in a country with a different cultural background. The presence of volunteers will influence their surroundings too, and the local people will get to know a different culture and mentality thanks to them. The project will contribute to the educational process of young people and raise the awareness of European and international connections in which they live.
