In the framework of the ‘European Week of Sport’, the Flemish sports administration (Sport Vlaanderen) will organize a ‘Week of the sports club’ during the third week of September 2016, in cooperation with the municipal sports offices and the Flemish sports federations and their clubs. Sport Vlaanderen is firmly convinced that club related sport is the best guarantee for lifetime sports participation. The ‘Week of the sports club’ is a prominent Flemish sports promotion and awareness initiative. Sports clubs are urged to open their doors for everybody in the week of 10 to 20 September and to promote their way of working.In September 2016 Sport Vlaanderen will conduct a national promotion campaign through radio and television, in order to stress the importance of club related sport for all ages. Attention will also be paid to the social dimension of club related sport: interaction with each other, handling winning and losing, dealing with all kind of social strata... . For local organisations, Sport Vlaanderen counts on the cooperation of the municipal sports offices. They announce and promote the ‘Week of the sports club’ to local sports clubs and coordinate the different local activities. These activities vary from ‘open door moments’, free participation in regular club training to ‘Do sport fairs’ (where local sports clubs promote their offer at a central local venue), etc.… .
