Applicant NGO Prima from Montenegro with partner organizations from: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, France, FYR Macedonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Spain and Turkey, proposes project “We Choose Non-violence”. Realization will lasts 11 months, from 01. October 2015. to 31. August 2016. Life without violence is basic human right which has to be available to all, without exception. Unfortunately a lot of people still think that women and LGBTs already have all rights. Even more, many people think that LGBTs are sick, deviant and dangerous, so that their rights should be cut. Especially in the poorer and traditional societies persist very strong resistance to changes in this field. Problem became complicated by the development of new technologies that have enabled widespread sharing very intimate contents. With more social networks, easy-to-use programs for video posting, lack of institutional measures to sanction hate speech in the media and the Internet, peer gender violence has even more devastating consequences. Even possibility to be publicly ridiculed and your fundamental rights could be disabled, inspires fear, especially among young people who are still developing their identity and their confidence is shaky. One of proofs for this is Gender Equality Index which indicates very high gender inequality in Balkans and many EU countries. After years of work with victims of gender violence, fight for gender equality and cooperation with NGOs at European level, conclusion is that we have common problem and need to undertake some solutions together. Our main goal is to build capacities which will support broader struggle against gender violence as well as sharing culture of non-violence. Planed activities: two mobility activities - trainings of 68 youth workers in total, 1) about how to recruit and educate peer educators for prevention of gender violence and 2) training for creating and writing public policies, strategies and laws in aim to prevent gender violence. Next activity is 3) creation of Manual for prevention of peer gender violence, aimed for youth workers but also youth in general, and 4) national training for 25 new peer volunteers as building of NGO Prima’s capacities in gender peer prevention at the local and national level. We will initiate opening on line counseling in 17 partner organizations. Manual will be edited on line, on Balkan languages and English. It will be guide for training of peer educators but also a type of check list for youth to define properly violence and find out how and where to ask for support and help. In this project we are going to devote special attention to “soft” types of gender violence, especially to the trend of young perpetrators to treat verbal violence as a joke as well as the trend of the victims to treat jealousy and control as a sign of true love. Our mission is life without violence and gender inequality, for more inclusive Europe.
