TERMINÉ
For several decades the concept of sustainability has been increasingly permeating most spheres of life. Globalizing processes affect our daily life regardless of our place of residence and our socialization. They are becoming a personal concern for all of us around the world, no matter on which side of a frontier we may be. We are all united in the responsibility for our environment, for other fellow human beings and for the next generations.
So, “what do my jeans have to do with democracy?”
Young people between 13-17 years from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic met in the city of Dresden to a critical encounter with global themes surrounding jeans, democracy and human rights. We have offered them creative workshops in animation and recycled sewing.
Together with our local partners: aha – anders handeln e.V, Louisenkombinat e.V and the Prague NGO ULTRAFUN, we have taken our young participants on a journey along the life of a pair of jeans. We have started with the working conditions on the cotton fields, in the spinning works and in the big fashion companies that sew the jeans that we wear every day. W've tried to deal with questions such as: What influence can our behavior have on the rights of people on the other side of the globe? Which alternatives do I have as a consumer?
The creative working methods should simplify the access to the complex global issues but also aid communication beyond the language barriers.
The products of our creative work such as short animations to the main theme as well as recycled-jeans designs have been presented as a public exhibition on the last evening.
At the end of the project the participants have acquired skills to become local multipliers in their home areas and their creations can support them in that activity.
