The attention of the project is focused on exploration of borders/margins and the division they present: what connects all the books chosen is the creation of identity in “borderline” regions, margins, or extremes – authors from Norway, Poland, Portugal, and Turkey all present characters on the border of past and contemporary times; be it because of historical and socio-political reasons, or simply because of the strong feeling of belonging to a certain cultural (literary) tradition and being unable to break these bonds. The selection of authors from these precise countries is not arbitrary, but it adheres to a tactical consideration we have established in order to present the topic we are trying to approach – division. These countries are all still divided or were divided in recent times, in different ways. They are certain cultural borders, political borders, geographical borders, and they present the extremely different situations present in modern Europe. If we deconstruct the reasons behind our choice, they would prove to be political – political division, the dialectic moment of struggle between the cultural and political colonizer and the colonized. All books, without example, explore the topic of localization; construction of individual identity based on geographical position and socio-political factors which (trans)formed it in the way known to the protagonists. As we find these subjects especially interesting and intriguing for both general public in Croatia (because of their relation to Croatian history, both older and modern), and to specialists in the field - professors of literatures and languages, critics, cultural experts (because of the high literary value of these works), we have constructed a strong plan for dissemination of the excerpts, marketing campaign, and distribution of these works, to make them available to the widest population possible, while using innovative techniques and approaches to publishing, translation and advertising.
