WAKE ME UP
Date du début: 20 juin 2014, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project came into being following 2 youth exchanges that took place in several towns of Bulgaria, involving ADRA France and ADRA Bulgaria. In these towns there is a large Roma population we realized that Roma chlidren and youth are looking for new initiatives and activities that would get them out of their everyday routine. They are looking for open places, not directly affiliated with the schools but with activities related to their specific needs and a possibility to meet people prepared to listen to them and provide sthem with support. 28 youth leaders from both countries who have cross-cultural interactions with the Roam people are going to share in their experiences and practices for a 2 week period - one week in each country - so as to spend time observing, analyzing and understanding the issues at hand. Finally, their aim will be to find alternative ways of life for those youngsters. The tools box they will come up with, will provide some concrete actions in relation to the needs of those Roma youngsters in the following areas: games, music, sports, health, arts, cooking... On top of that, those activities will also tackle issues such as respecting life, respecting women, learning non-violent principles, helping with education, listening and being supportive , etc. In a short term, the first objective for the participants is to be abble to lead the Roma youngsters in different places where they will host them and help them gradually improve their way of thinking. The aim is to create a movement of inclusion, hope and of change to help get the children and the youth out of the streets where petty crime is so often a trap for their lives. The Roma people also suffer from public and individual discrimination based on prejudices, accumulated throughout the years, In this particular project, the final beneficiaries have understood and learned to stand up for their human rights, thus were able to improve their lives, in their home country. Each person involved in this project should be able, in turn, to become a project carrier and a trainer of new youth leaders.
