Background of project: - Because of our small classes, we are forced to teach 2 streams together. - From autumn 2014 our Hauptschule will become Neue Mittelschule which means that streams won`t exist anymore, all pupils of a class will be taught together. The level of the pupils will therefore vary from very low to very high. That causes doubts and uncertainties among the English teachers, because they don`t really know how to handle the new teaching situation. Using new teaching methods to keep up the level is therefore essential. Objectives of project: The contents of the language course "Teaching English Using the Silent Way" is exactly what we need: - Getting to know new teaching methods, which encourage pupils to learn and act on their own. - Getting to know new teaching methods, which allows the teacher to step aside, and so having more time to help learners with their individual needs. - classroom management - discovering and reducing learner`s blockages - refreshing of pronunciation and vocabulary Number and profile of participants: There`s one participant, Mrs. Jodlbauer who is an English teacher at Hauptschule Geinberg and she also holds courses for English teachers in the districts of Upper Austria. Description of activities: the contents of the Pilgrims Language course is added. Short description of the results and impact envisaged and finally the potential longer term benefits: - The new teaching methods will be a massive enrichment and help with our future teaching situation and will remove the doubts and uncertainties among the English team. - The different activities of the course will inspire and motivate the participant as well as the whole English team of our school. - The pupils will gain from "up to date" English lessons. - The acquired competences will improve the teaching quality on different levels (vocabulary, pronunciation, teaching skills,....)in the long term. - Mrs. Jodlbauer will arrange a teacher training course with the title "Teaching English Using the Silent Way" and will hold courses in Upper Austria.
