Volunteering for youth challenges
Date du début: 1 nov. 2016, Date de fin: 30 juin 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

WHO ARE WE ? Eufemia is an Italian non-profit organization, for social promotion in the cultural field, endorsed by a group of young people committed to supporting the process of European integration.Eufemia is divided into two main areas: the Socio-Educational Area (we work in schools and in local-level educational project targeted to children and young people with fewer opportunities) and the International Area: we develop projects of youth international mobility, we are experienced in the Erasmus+ program and Youth in Action program; we cooperate in project design, facilitate Youth Exchanges abroad, organize and run YE and TC in Turin as well as non-formal learning activities.WHERE? Turin is located in Northern-west of Italy, near the French border and very closed to the Alps.It is the 4th biggest city in Italy and it is very rich in history and culture. In 2006 Turin hosted the XX Olympic Winter Games and after this big event the city occurred in a big change of its urban identity: from an industrial city, in which the main activities were related to car manufacturing(FIAT), to a cultural and touristic one.The general environment is multicultural, due to the strong immigration (from Southern Italy in the 60's and from Est Europe,South America and North Africa from 90's since nowadays), tourism, and Youth mobility.WHEN? 1.04.2017 - 31.03.2018 WHAT? 2 volunteers will take part in our EVS activities. They will be involved in a local-level educational project targeted to children and young people with fewer opportunities (aged 6-30) living in San Paolo-Cenisia, a district in Turin, and in the promotion of mobility programmes, including EVS, taking part in the development of international youth exchange projects.Activities will be carried out in schools, in gathering centres in the neighbour and in our office. The activities of the EVS project aim to develop the comprehension of different cultures living in the district and thus represent an input for the self-growth of the volunteers involved. The aim of the project is to develop the volunteers' understanding of different cultures and situations, which, at the same time, may lead to personal growth of the volunteers themselves.Throughout their volunteering experience, youngsters will work with people with fewer opportunities (mainly old people and immigrant young ones) and therefore have the chance to give some of their time and experience to the ones who need.In terms of service and learning opportunities the EVS volunteers will be able to develop several skills in order to improve their performance. What we can offer to the volunteers in terms of learning opportunities is the chance to improve their social and communicative skills, their skills related to project management (e.g how to write and manage a social project to get better the life-style of the local community),and the development of teamwork abilities in a multicultural environment. The volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn Italian, that is very important to give them linguistic basis in order to allow them to communicate with people and further on to realize a project in an autonomous way.The volunteers will play an active role in the everyday activities of Eufemia, they will fully co-operate and support the staff and the Italian volunteers normally acting in our gathering centers: educators, psychologists, sociologists, and social workers.Volunteers will be integrated as an equal member of the team, but do not bear full responsibility. They are cared regularly by their mentor. They participate in regular team meetings and receive the necessary support, in order to get integrated into the project, the country and the culture. They are encouraged to bring their own ideas, creativity and experiences to the development of the project. The work is aligned at their abilities and interests. They will participate in all activities. They can help children and teenagers with their skills accordingly.Homework, playing games together outdoors and indoors, sports activities, projects and workshops. With their own mentors, volunteers will reflect on their learning processes and evaluate their learning outcomes. The volunteers will be involved from Tuesday to Saturday in the activities of the association for a maximum of 35 weekly hours.Sometimes, anyway, there will be events that will take place during the weekends, in these cases, the volunteers will have day-off during the week.E.g.
