Youth For Understanding promotes intercultural competences through long-term youth exchanges. Unfortunately, not all young people have the opportunity to participate in these exchanges because of their economic and social backgrounds. So, with the aim to use its intercultural expertise a wider target group of young people, YFU developed the "Coloured Glasses" methods and manual 1996. It consists of a handbook of intercultural resources using the metaphor of coloured glasses that change colours accordin to the cultural perspective one put on, like a pair of coloured glasses These workshops help improve social inclusion, and develop social and civic transversal skills in a difficult economic and social context in Europe. For almost 20 years, tens of thousands of young people have participated in these workshops in schools and other organisations. Unfortunately, this programme is not yet used in all European YFU organisations in Europe, including Francophone countries like YFU France or YFU Bruxelles-Wallonie. Although volunteers associations have basic skills in intercultural, many still do not know "Coloured Glasses" and some associations lack of volunteers with the necessary skills to expand workshops on a larger scale. So the project "See the world differently: Training for Facilitators Coloured Glasses" will aim to increase the capacity of YFU organisations to provide high quality workshops in to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in schools and voluntary organisations, especially in matters related to intercultural learning. More specifically, the training will develop the participants’ skills and knowledge in non-formal education and enhance the understanding of the working themes of the "Coloured Glasses", including human rights education, intercultural communication and global education . It will allow the participants to have the necessary skill base to train other volunteers to put these workshops in place, to work with actors in the field of formal education and to evaluate the effects of their actions locally. It has therefore a specific focus on the spread of the subject in participating countries and works to encourage volunteer mobility through inter-country initiatives on a European level. The French language training will be held in Tours, with 25 youth workers from the YFU organisations of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Romania, Sweden and France. They will be selected based on their motivation, their geographical origin etc. Francophone leaders from different countries will prepare the training course during the preceding two months with two-face meetings, e-mails and online meetings. The training will use role plays, small group work, open discussions and other methods related to the methodology of non-formal education. With this training, volunteers will be better trained. They will increase the capacity of their YFU oragnisations. Thereafter, workshops will be organized in schools and associations targeting young people.
