VOICES FOR PEACE: Music-Media-Discussion
VOICES FOR PEACE: Music-Media-Discussion
Date du début: 1 mai 2012,
The event is a combined peace training and music workshop activity. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people, whether geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological. The project is linked to the celebration of 20th anniversary celebration of the ÅIPI & the yearly commemoration of Hiroshima Day, to highlight the width of peace work on Åland, Finland & in the Nordic countries, to bring together people from these countries with peace activists, young people and musicians from Azerbaijan & Armenia, to promote tolerance through music as well as to deepen & develop social and professional ties in all the four countries involved. Peace and conflict issues in the South Caucasus has been one of the long lasting engagements of Åland, Finland and the ÅIPI and during the activities musicians, journalists and young people shall be given the opportunity to go beyond common stereotypes and through the exchange of experiences, the promotion of best practices and, hopefully, the agreement on mutual ideas and values. We believe that the Åland example can be useful as one point of discussion and inspiration in such efforts. The activity will last for 6 days (excluding travel days) – 6 days for musical workshops & panel discussions, seminars, media work and visits and culminate in a Final Peace Concert which will be free to the public. 32 peace promoters from 4 countries will have a possibility to meet each other and share experiences, have an opportunity to learn more about the Åland Example, about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and about peace and tolerance as a societal imperative which will result in a multiplying effect & peace-building as well as bring benefit to the quality of youth work and active citizenship in Europe and beyond. The participants of the project will be young academics and university students, journalists & musicians from Azerbaijan (we shall make an effort to include Azeri internally displaced persons originating from Karabakh), Armenia (also currently living in Nagorna Karabakh) & the Nordic countries (Sweden, mainland Finland and Åland) who wish to contribute to a peaceful development in the region as well as in the world. There will be 9 and 8 participants respectively from each country (Armenia and Azerbaijan), including group leaders, 4 young participants from Sweden, and 8 participants from Åland plus in total 4 trainers/facilitators which makes a total of 32 participants.
