Vocational Training for Integration of Non-EU Nationals

The project will develop and pilot flexible, didactic methods for work-based vocational training programmes for non-EU nationals. Acknowledging, firstly, the need to utilise immigrants' untapped work skills so they can more fully contribute to the European economy, and, secondly, the need to train immigrants with respect to identified skills shortages, the project will establish a vocational training programme specifically aimed at this target group. Vocational training will focus upon flexible learning tools and methods able to target an individual user's needs. The project's 'model' for flexible vocational training will be based on criteria including: the freedom to begin training at a time/point decided by the trainee, easy transition between different training programmes and the freedom to choose the degree of supervision. A mixture of traditional learning methods will be employed supported by IT-based individual learning. Various open and flexible learning tools will be tested by the project partners in the course of the project's duration and with different user groups. The project's main products will be in the form of printed material and will consist of: a printed manual, in EN, detailing a general model for validation, guidance and counselling in vocational training for non-EU nationals in the workplace; a printed checklist, in all partner languages, on how to implement vocational training ideals; a printed guidebook, in EN, offering step-by-step directions on how to deliver individually tailored vocational training for non-EU immigrants. The guidebook will include case studies and models on how to offer vocational training and counselling and will cover training programmes for work-based mentors and instructors. A project website, in addition to representation at conferences and seminars, will assist in the dissemination of the project results.
