Vocational Knowledge and Skills Exchange Project

Date de fin: 30 juin 2016
PROJET
TERMINÉ
The Vocational Knowledge and Skills Exchange Project, a partnership between Canterbury College and Lycée Henri Senez, will provide students with the opportunity to increase their professional and employability skills in the local and international job market. In an area where tourism and travel are frequent, Canterbury needs employees that can relate to diverse cultures and demonstrate proficiency in modern languages. We sit at the gateway to Europe whilst also dealing with issues of deprivation and disadvantage amongst our students. This project will not only aim to improve the local job market but will also encourage mobility within Europe and a greater integration with another culture and ethos.
Canterbury College is already working in partnership with European Colleges. A project with Lycée Henri Senez sees groups of 8 students coming to Canterbury for 4 weeks of tailored language training and work placements. Our history with similar projects has been successful, including being lead partner in an EU-ICI mobility project with 4 partners from France, Denmark The Netherlands and Australia. This project was audited by the EC in August 2013. We currently have other projects with institutions in Sweden, Denmark and Estonia funded under the EC Lifelong programme. It is with this backdrop of experience that we hope to build this new project and add to our wealth of knowledge and expertise.
The project will involve a total of 20 students over a two year period travelling to France to participate in relevant vocational work placements. The students will be selected based on predetermined criteria. There will be particular focus on the students who will gain the most from the project and all students will be offered support during the application process, ensuring that disadvantaged students will have equal chance of participation. The students will create a blog, work log and a video presentation to demonstrate the work they have done during the project. They will also participate in online language training prior to the visit and develop learning agreements based on realistic targets.
Further to this, two academic staff and two support staff - the international manager and job shop manager - will engage in work shadowing whilst developing joint observations of work placements. This work shadowing will allow the staff members to improve their ability to provide students with an internationally focused training and opportunities. Our two institutions will communicate regularly using Skype and emails. We will also take advantage of facilities such as e-Twinning.
The project will be managed and monitored by an Erasmus+ committee comprised of staff from all relevant academic and support departments. It will be a College led project aimed at increasing our ability to provide internationally focussed curricula to the benefit of our students. Dissemination of project results and outcomes will be through our College website, local press, blogs and social media. It is hoped that the project will have far reaching impact in terms of professional, personal and cultural development of participants, better job prospects and engagement with employers and promote an international outlook and mobility within the College.
