Visual Facilitation in Youth Work

“Visual Facilitation in Youth Work” is a KA1 Mobility of youth workers financed by European Commission under Erasmus+ programme- Mobility of learners and staff with a duration of 11 months (03-08-2015 – 03-07-2016) aiming to develop practical abilities of 38 youth workers on how to apply techniques of Visual Facilitation in their work. The proper activity of the training course took place in Baile Homorod, Harghita County, Romania where 32 youth workers from 8 countries participated. Our main objective was to develop practical knowledge, competences and abilities on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in youth work activities of 32 youth workers from 8 partner countries: Czech Republic, Cyprus, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia and Lithuania. Our second objective was to increase the capacity of organizing trainings, events and other youth activities using visual facilitation methods and techniques of 8 partner organizations from the above mentioned countries. Our third objective was to increase the level of efficacy of DEOR within youth activities and Erasmus + through visual facilitation techniques and methods among the 8 partner organizations from the countries mentioned above. The project was developed together with all 10 partners solving their need of using a big number of materials such as markers, pencils, papers, flipchart, post-it and many more in an efficient and useful way to help the learning process of their target group. By using visual facilitation, our partners can use efficiently all materials in interactive practices with small and large groups, in the reflective and evaluative processes, in preparing, delivering and documenting their work. Our training course provides the answer regarding the utility of applying visual facilitation to support a learning group in all projects under Erasmus + programme in a non-formal learning context with national and transnational participation. This training course consisted of 5 phases where our participants discovered theorethical and hands on experience graphic facilitation and visual storytelling, how to draw using 8 basic elements and principles, performing graphic facilitation in a work visit in Octavian Goga Highschool, created the guide of visual facilitation and website. All methods were used in this TC were participative nonformal educational methods like: animation of the participants, games, learning by doing, reflection sessions; individual learning; active participation in group activities, graphic facilitation, visual storytelling, performing. As result, the participants increased knowledge, competences and skills on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in their youth work activities. On the long term result, our project was closely linked to the European Youth Strategy, agreed by EU Ministers 2010- 2018, ensuring that all people have equal chances to high quality education and training and developing youth work and other non-formal learning opportunities. By developing competences, skills, abilities and knowledge of 32 participants on how to apply visual facilitation techniques and methods in youth work activities; we provided chances to high quality training and non-formal learning opportunities.
