Virtual Medical School and e-Learning Framework

The project will enhance the training received by radiologists by developing an innovative e-training method that is able to provide them with a range of case studies and an advanced training curriculum. The project will focus on brain MRI and mammographic imaging but can easily be extended to accommodate other medical sub-specialities. The creation of the project's internet platform will particularly enhance training opportunities for radiologists in remote areas and will encourage cooperation in radiology training across Europe. The project's internet training platform, the e-Medl platform, will provide a repository of training material with real clinical case studies using digital imaging and accompanying notes. The e-Medl platform will also facilitate communication between trainees and trainers using problem-solving training sessions, peer-reviewing, and a 'second-opinion' process. Delivery of training material will be flexible and customised to user preferences. Trainers will also undergo assessment using the e-Medl platform's interactive tests. The project's hypermedia training material will also be available via DVD. A trainee's manual and guidelines for the accreditation of radiologists will be available in printed form in EN, FR & GR. The project's training programme will comply with EC directives in health training which will support an active dissemination of the project results to a wide medical audience. The project will utilise the findings and software developed by other medical programmes to provide the e-Medl platform with cutting-edge training facilities. Project partners will disseminate results through workshops and seminars, with dissemination material focusing on printed brochures.
