Virtual interface for realistic microelectronic processing

The project is based on the permanent training needs of engineers and technicians in the micro-electronics industry. Such training normally requires equipment which is costly and difficult to obtain, such as a white room. The partnership feels that virtual reality technologies can provide a sophisticated, high-performance, low cost and easy access solution. Moreover, developments in internet technology (VRML) means that virtual reality can be used as a tool for distance learning and/or distance management of manufacturing units and/or network applications in a shared virtual environment. The project proposes to:° carry out an in-depth audit of the use of virtual reality in training;° analyse the specific needs of the micro-electronics industry;° define and develop new tools, teaching techniques and methods for vocational training, integrating virtual reality technologies;° test the use of these tools on a significant sample of technicians and production engineers;° study and check the direct and indirect impact of this type of technology on the sample.
