The “Video and social media for greater youth participation” project was an international training course within the mobility project for young people and youth workers, action 1 of the ERASMUS+ programme (youth workers' training and networking). It was held in Warsaw, Poland from 19-24 September 2015. The project has been developed by participants coming from 13 youth organizations from both EU and the neighbouring region of Eastern Europe and Caucasus. 37 participants took part in the project and they included leaders and responsible for social media communication, including 2 with special needs and 8 with fewer opportunities. The project was a follow up of a very successful project realized by with some of our partners in 2013 in Kraków. The objective of this training course was to gather a balanced group of organizations from EU and EU Partner Countries from the neighbouring region of Eastern Europe and Caucasus and to train young and emerging leaders of this organizations in the effective application of social media and video tools relevant to their youth work in the light of the overall idea of achieving greater youth participation. In its overall goal the training course contributed to an increased youth participation in countries represented, especially in the region of Eastern Europe and Caucasus. The training course used widely non-formal learning methods so as to unleash creativity and innovation in reaching the objectives of the project. These were backed by adequate workshop sessions transmitting practical skills, individual and group work and informal learning. Some theoretical material complemented the programme, for example while presenting the linkages between social media and youth participation and the work of EU institutions in that regard. As a result of the project young leaders from both EU and neighbouring partner countries of Eastern Europe and Caucasus were trained on social media and video usage technology and their application as a tool for greater youth participation. This contributed to a change of practice in our organizations and beyond (direct result). It also helped to improve youth participation in more youth actions and initiatives (indirect result).
